History of music videos

A music video is a visual media that is played along side a song. A music videos main purpose is to advertise the artists music tracks to try and boost their records sales. Althought music videos have been an idea for along time, they officialy became a part of the media industry in the 1980s. MTV was created around the idea of playing music videos on television, the triggered the creation of VH1. The name "music video" was created in the early 80s. Before that, "music videos" were refferred to as "filmed insert", "promotional film", "promotional clip" and "film clip". In China, music videos are called "MTVS" simply because of the fact that the MTV network introduced them into popular culture. Over the years music videos have evolved to using more and more techniques, including live action filming, animation, non-narrative approaches, abstrat film or documentaries. Some music videos combine two or more of these techniques.
